Del. Sam Rasoul urges people to not let guard down during pandemic after COVID diagnosis

Writer: Sam RasoulSam Rasoul

ROANOKE, Va. (WSET) -- Delegate Sam Rasoul is speaking out for the first time since his COVID-19 diagnosis.

Rasoul first shared the news of his diagnosis on Monday in a Facebook post.

Rasoul said that he, along with members of his family, contracted the virus from an asymptomatic family member.

He said that he started exhibiting symptoms of shortness of breath about two weeks ago. He was tested two days after symptoms began and received the results in the following days.

His family was tested soon after with positive results as well.

Rasoul wants this to be a lesson to continue to exercise caution during the pandemic

"I want to make sure that people don't make the same mistake I did and not be diligent around friends and family," Rasoul said. "That's the easiest time to let your guard down."

Rasoul says he and his family are on the mend and will make a recovery.
